On 28 Dec 2012, I along with 2 friends ate at 901 Restaurant and Bar in Washington DC. Here are my thoughts.

(It’s right smack on the corner, you can’t miss it.)
But Sug, where is it located?

But Sug, what did you eat? We had the lunch special for $15.00. The lunch special came with a cup of soup or a salad and a half-size entrée or a full appetizer.

Sweet and Spicy Seared Tuna, $9
(Tropical mango salsa, cucumber salad, jalapeño cilantro coulis)
We ordered this appetizer separate from the lunch special.

OH. MY WORD! This thing was amazing. The cucumber salad was EVERYTHING! The ginger made me want to go to the kitchen, and slap someone. Mmmmm!

Tomato Soup with Basil Oil
This came with my lunch special and it was EVERYTHING! The basil oil was a nice touch.

901 Salad, $7
(Fire roasted red pepper, plum dressing, toasted sunflower, dusted goat cheese)
We ordered this salad separate from our lunch special. It was not what I expected. It was average. I’ve made better salads at home.

Crab Fritters, $13
(Curried crab, spicy citrus mayo kaiware sprout salad)
My friend Ni ordered this. She loved it! It was a bit too fishy tasting for me and I was not a fan of the texture.

Spinach (not on the menu)
My friend Ni ordered this spinach too. It was yummy, but it’s hard to mess up spinach.

The strongest Manhattan on EARTH, FREE!!!
We had to add a ton of cherries to take away the sting. LOL! For the record, I’m not a fan or alcohol that tastes like alcohol.

Grilled Salmon, $14/27
(Scallion beurre blanc, togarashi crab relish, roasted garlic, garlic squash noodles)
This is what I ordered and it was EVERYTHING!!! I love Salmon and I love squash noodles. I enjoyed the different textures and I also enjoyed that the dish was not over powering. The flavors worked well together.

Cornmeal Crusted Fish Sandwich, $13
(901 slaw, rémoulade sauce, sweet pickled chilies, fries)
My friend Nina ordered this. The fries were GREAT! The sandwich was fair. The size of the fish was too big for the bun and it requires one to eat it with a knife and fork. Nina enjoyed it.
But Sug, how was the experience. In the interest of time (I’m trying to watch a movie and you guys KNOW how I LOVE to talk), I’m going to make this quick.
The Good:
- The service was amazing. The staff was nice and attentive. They even allowed us to charge our cellphones.
- The food was amazing and it was plated nicely.
- The manager came over to speak with us about our experience.
- The restaurant was clean and we loved the decorations!!

They even had a lighted menu!
The Bad:
- IT WAS SOOOOOO COLD IN THERE! Apparently, the heat system was being repaired. The cold was rather disrespectful. I thought I would die when I went to the bathroom and washed my hands.
I thought my nether regions would suffer from frost bite (and fall into the frigid toilet water) when I went to use the restroom. That thang was terrible! I will say this, however, the staff and the general manager apologized for the cold temperatures and offered us a drink to “warm” us up, on the house. The drink was strong but it warmed us up. HA!
The Verdict:
I would go back. I can’t wait to take my husband, the next time we are in the DC area. If you’re in the area, you should check it out. If you have, what are your thought? What are your favorite restaurants in DC?
That’s it on my review for 901 Restaurant and Bar. Thanks for listening. :D
