I think I may have a routine.  Only took 6 months.

 Washing...

I’m on the modified no poo method.  I conditioner wash with Suave Humectant Conditioner (or whatever is cheap).  Gone are the days of washing my hair everyday.   Now that my hair is longer it’s just not worth washing it everyday.  Plus it takes a lot longer to dry and it has been established that blow dryers are the devil.  And, I’m starting to get over myself.

I notice I get this funky scalp sludge when I go longer than 5 days between washings.  My hair is also non-responsive around the fifth day.  My hair did the same when I had a perm.  Believe it or not I used to wash my hair everyday when I had a perm!

Conditioners have a way of building up on my hair.  When I feel like I need to clarify, I’ll use a tad bit of shampoo or Dr. Bronners Peppermint Soap.  Shampoos make my hair squeaky clean.

When I’m in the mood for having goop run down my neck I’ll do the honey/olive oil condition.  I haven’t used it in a while, however.  The jury is still out with that process.

Moisture…

WATER!  You got to drink it.

Stay Soft Fro

Limited use of heat on the hair.

Styling Aids…

I’m proud to say that I’m a recovering product junkie.  My hair likes the less is best approach.  When I rock my picked out fro I use stay soft fro or my glycerin/water spritz.

When I do twists, coils, cornrows, etc.  I use QP’s Mango Butter.

For my wash and go’s I use 100%Aloe Gel or Proclaims Aloe Gel or I use nothing at ALL!

I’ll also use the above gels to smooth my hair down when I wear a puff.

That’s about it as far as my routine.  It has changed a lot over the past few months but I think this works best for my hair for right now.  I don’t fight with my hair anymore to get it to do what it’s not meant too.  I have several different textures and it’s futile to try to get them to look the same.

New Routine as of 11/18/05

I wash my hair almost daily with Dr. Bronners Soap.  I condition with a cheap Conditioner.  I rub a little Garnier Soft Curl Cream on my hair.  I get an edge up/trim weekly.  That's it!

NeW Loc Routine NeW as of 4 July 06

Hmm, well I'm still new to locs but my routine is as follows:

-Wash my locs every 2-5 days with Avalon shampoo, or a clarifying shampoo.

- Retwist (when needed)  and clip the new growth as needed with distilled water mixed with sweet almond oil and few drops of lavender oil or Jamaican Loc and Twist gel or wash and separate the roots.

-Get and edge up when needed.

-Sleep with my hair covered.

-Fluff my locs when I get up and spritz them to -wake them up.

NeW Loc Routine NeW as of 20 Nov 06

-Wash em when they are dirty.

-Twist when I feel inclined.

-Cover them up when I can find something to cover them with.

-Spritz when I feel inclined.

New/Old Routine as of 27 Dec 07

-Wash my hair when it's dirty or whenever I jump in the shower.

- I may or may not use shampoo but I always use conditioner.

-I may or may not use a moisturizer.

-I really don't use any products in my hair.

-Whoever said less is more never lied!  My routine is rather simple.

New Loc Routine as of 25 April 09

My routine is rather simple.

-I wash my hair least once week most of the time.

-I rinse all the time even when I don't use shampoo.

-I twist them about once or month.

-I use a home made concoction to twist my locs.

-I twist and use duck bill clips.

-I use conditioner sparingly.

-Often times I don't use anything on my locs.
